How is the ACT scored?
(No Essay)

Your ACT scores are calculated as follows:

STEP 1

Calculate Raw Score

Your raw score is simply the number of questions
you answered correctly.
You don’t lose any points for guessing!

English Raw Score = 75 – (# of Incorrect Answers)
Math Raw Score = 60 – (# of Incorrect Answers)
Reading Raw Score = 40 – (# of Incorrect Answers)
Science Raw Score = 40 – (# of Incorrect Answers)

STEP 2

Calculate Scaled Score

Your raw score for each section is converted to a scaled score
using a conversion table.
This score is between 1 – 36.

STEP 3

Calculate ACT Composite

This is what most people consider their “ACT Score.”
This is the average of your 4 scaled scores.
ACT Composite = (Sum of all Scaled Scores) / 4

For a full list of raw scoring & conversions see CollegeBoard.
